The Beechwood Homes McLaren 650s GT3 was in action in Perth last weekend for Round 3 of the Australian GT Championship.
Nathan Antunes kicked off Race 1 on Saturday after qualifying in 8th position and quickly gained a couple of positions in the rain. However, when a safety car was deployed with the rain easing off, the team decided to make a strategic early pit stop to change to quicker, slick tyres. However, the tyre change was not completed before the field re-emerged and the team was lapped whilst in pit lane. Had the tyre change been completed a couple of seconds earlier, the pit stop could have been a genius move. As it turned out, those few seconds doomed the team to a 13th place finish in Race 1.
Elliot Barbour started Race 2 on Sunday and made up 4 spots before a massive head on crash saw racing suspended for 30 minutes (half the allocated race time). When the race resumed following a driver change, Nathan was able to get up to 5th position. When compulsory pit stop times were later added, the team finished in 2nd place for Race 2.
The boys finished a credible fifth in the weekend and have moved up to sixth place in the Championship ahead of the next round at Phillip Island on 27-28 May 2016.
